If you want to connect with your community, words alone won’t do it. You need visuals too. As the smart folks at Sightline said in a recent blog, leaving out photos and video from your communications, or adding them as an afterthought, means you’ve missed a great opportunity.
Here are two reasons that pictures are important:
- Visuals help reach people’s emotions, not just their minds. We often make our decisions emotionally and justify them afterwards with rational arguments.
- Visuals help us remember. One study found that adding visuals to a presentation increased recall from 10 percent to 65 percent
The Sightline blog links to a great little report by Resource Media, Visual Storytelling. It’s good reading–with lots of pictures.
